David Jones Earns Prestigious Dual Recognition from FAA
Avotek is celebrating a remarkable achievement by David L. Jones, a key member of our team. Jones has been awarded both the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award and the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). These prestigious lifetime achievement awards, each recognizing 50 years of dedication, acknowledge Jones’ exceptional contributions to aviation in both maintenance and piloting. He received the awards at the Aviation Technician Education Council (ATEC) conference in Tucson in March.
Mr. Jones is a 1972 graduate of Western Michigan University in aviation engineering technology. He is an accomplished mechanic with Airframe and Powerplant Ratings, was a Designated Mechanic Examiner, and has many pilot ratings. He has developed a close relationship with the FAA and has served on numerous workgroups: Aviation Rulemaking Advisory Committee (ARAC), Airman Certification System (ACS), and worked on changes to Part 147 and revisions to the Oral & Practical testing process for maintenance technicians. He has also developed maintenance training for light sport aircraft and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).
Jones was also instrumental in starting many AMT schools and dove in to all aspects of education/training including classroom and lab instruction, curriculum development, and classroom material development. He is an accomplished author and has contributed heavily to many textbooks and online courses published by Avotek and others.
“David’s dedication to safety, meticulous work ethic, and passion for flight are truly inspiring,” said Karl Stoltzfus, CEO of Avotek. “These awards are a well-deserved recognition of his lifelong commitment to aviation excellence.”
As a Charles Taylor Master Mechanic, Jones has consistently demonstrated exceptional skill and professionalism throughout his career. His unwavering attention to detail has ensured the airworthiness of countless aircraft, earning the trust of pilots and colleagues alike.
Jones’ love for flying extends beyond the hangar. As a Wright Brothers Master Pilot, he boasts an unblemished safety record and a deep understanding of airmanship. He could fly before he could legally drive; his first solo flight was in an Aeronca 7AC Champ when he was 16 years old. He actively shares his knowledge and enthusiasm with others, fostering a love for aviation in future generations.
“David exemplifies the Avotek spirit,” concluded Stoltzfus. “His expertise and passion are an inspiration to all of us.”
